Llucasaldent Gran Restaurant: Menorcan cuisine and hospitality at its best
Husband and wife power-house team Germán and Cristina are front-of-house at Restaurante Llucasaldent and under their vigilant and gracious supervision, dining here is top tier. With over thirty years of experience in the industry, Germán not only takes your order, he works with the chef to create each dish on the menu. And the dishes they have devised are nothing short of creative, delicious and thoughtful. It is unlikely you have ever tried the unique concoctions that come out of this kitchen - and each at the perfect temperature, perfect portion and with the perfect combination of textures.
There are Menorcan classics on the menu that have been elevated to represent a sophisticated yet wholesome version of the original. You could eat every meal of the day for a week at this restaurant and never get bored. And the quality of each dish - not simply the ingredients - but the technique and execution - make this the best food I have tasted on the island to date.
For me, bread and wine are key components when assessing the integrity of a restaurant. Restaurante Llucasaldent passed this test with flying colors. The Llucasaldent wine is a perfectly acidic yet round and lush blend that paired well with our entire meal. Their fresh bread is out of this world - crusty on the outside and doughy on the inside and with just the right amount of salt, and served alongside the estate’s delicious olive oil: buttery, fresh, perfect. I could have stopped there but I was lucky enough to catch a glance of Germán serving the couple next to us the Oliaigu soup, a food theater moment when sight and smell then lead to an unforgettable taste explosion of sweet and savoury. Highly recommended.

We also had the pleasure of enjoying Llucadaldent’s version of a formatjada, where again, they elevate a traditional island classic to a level that leaves you breathless. Moving on to the mains, when I asked Germán about the first dish listed under “Sea”, he encouraged me to go with what he thought was the most creative of the three: the creamy bulgur wheat risotto with a spring vegetable tuile and squid gnocchi. It was fresh, creative and elegant and the flavours and textures exciting. My husband asked Germán what he would recommend among the “Land” selection and he suggested the suckling pig with potatoes. Colby was delighted and basically couldn’t even talk until every bite was taken, it was that good.
Dessert was the perfect ending to the perfect meal. We had the chef’s interpretation of tiramisu - complete with inspiring textures and temperatures - and the homemade cheesecake with fig ice cream that I only wish came in an XXL version.
The excellent food and wine were accompanied by flawless service given with heart and soul by the king and queen of Menorcan hospitality: Germán and Cristina. I left feeling a sense of true satisfaction that I have not had from a restaurant experience in a long time. I can’t wait to go back.
Five star restaurant.
